Admission Requirements
- Mature status (19 years or older) and 1 year work experience in any field.
- Completion of the Counselling Aptitude Assessment (CAA). Responses to this questionnaire are used by the KCPC admissions department as a measure of an applicant’s suitability for counsellor training and proficiency with the English language.
- Students with pre-existing medical, psychiatric or substance related conditions that may interfere with their ability to complete the training program require a letter of recommendation from an attending specialist. Over 1 year of sobriety required.
- Admissions interview in-person or by phone to evaluate applicants’ expectations and career goals relevant to the learning objectives of the program; completion of a short orientation course may be required to determine suitability for Distance Education.
- The language of instruction for our programs is English only.*
- Signed agreement with confidentiality and participation policies. Proof of funding, Criminal record check.
- Students applying for the Diploma program specializing in psychotherapy or counselling therapy must have completed an accredited undergraduate degree, or independent assessment to determine equivalence.
What are the funding options?
Your chances to obtain financial aid are improved due to KCPC’s certification designation.
Certification by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education in British Columbia (Registration #3285), opens the door for you to apply for Federal and/or Provincial student loans and other types of tuition assistance.
What other types of funding are available to students applying to KCPC?
Many of our students have applied for financial aid through various funding sources and qualified.
We recommend that students look at all avenues available to them for funding…as individual circumstances vary, so do funding options. Funding resources include, but are not limited to the following:

*Evidence that 3 years of full-time secondary (Grades 8-12) or post-secondary education has been completed in the program’s language of instruction in a country where the program’s language of instruction is one of the principal languages. (Language courses cannot be included in this calculation)
